Creating Custom Apparel
By Heather Hales, senior editor

If you are anything like me, you like to be a bit unique, include your clothing. This month I'm sharing with you my favorite places to design your own clothing. Why wear what everyone else is wearing when you can create you very own design?! This can be great for Family Reunion T-shirts, family photo-shirts, fun gifts for your girl friends, older sibling/younger sibling shirts for your kids; the possibilities are endless!

For those of you who are a little inept when it comes to designing software- not to worry! Some of these companies offer their own software and stock images for you to play with. You can also use your own photos from your digital camera. If you just don't feel clever enough to create your own witty design, we have listed a few of our favorite custom T-shirts (you can buy someone else's handiwork!)

This can also be a great moneymaker for those of you with Photoshop or Corel capabilities. Design your own shirts and sell them in the marketplace- set your own prices!

1. Choose Your Product
2. Upload Your Design/Photo
3. Place Your Order (no Minimum)

This is the company that we use and we have been very happy with them. They offer men, women & children's apparel, gifts and other accessories. Women's shirts as low as $13.99. Step by step format guidelines and easy uploading. Set up is free, but there are restrictions on how many products you can offer/make.

Similar set up to CafePress, but larger selection. Everything from apparel, mugs, cards, posters & postage. Apparel starts as low as $14.95.

Uberprints.com

Create your own apparel, men, women & athletic apparel. The cool thing about uberprints is that they offer a limited design software program so that you can build your shirt through them if you lack the software on your personal computer. These shirts are screen printed, but you must order a minimum of 12. Would be great for family reunion shirts.

99dogs will allow you to design your own shirt, choose from their HUGE selection of stock images, or customize your design using all of the above. Prices start at $15.99

HP Iron-on Transfers, $9.99 for 6 sheets

These work great if you are making a shirt that doesn't have to last long. These can be very cost effective to use for large groups. You can purchase inexpensive white shirts to iron your design on to. You will need a good quality printer and a hot iron!

FedEx Kinko's offers photo t-shirts. I have actually printed shirts here before, the color quality was really good but there is a size limit of 8x10. Call or visit your local Kino's for more information.
